The Role of Vitamins, Trace Elements, and Ozone Therapy

The cause of the loss of immune tolerance towards self antigens that leads to the development of autoimmune diseases (AID's) is not yet known.

There is as yet no consensus about the possible strategies for prevention and treatment of most autoimmune diseases; treatment frequently involves the use of corticosteroids, immunosuppressive agents and biological drugs aimed at various inflammatory cytokines.

Non-toxic complementary options for treatment are the use of vitamins and trace elements. It has been shown that some of these can potentiate the effects of standard medication, or that in some cases it can favor response and stability for longer periods of time.

Vitamins and trace elements are metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract, which is why during their metabolism they undergo chemical transformation, which hinders their absorption and distribution in the body.

The best route of administration is the systemic (intravenous) route, thus ensuring the exact amount of action of the supplements.

Curcumin, known as turmeric, is rich in phenols, these have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect, and is widely used in these groups of patients, as well as in cancer patients.

Vitamin D is aprohormone that also exerts an endocrine action on the cells of the immune system, generating anti-inflammatory and immune regulatory effects.

Magnesium deficiency conditions pro-inflammatory diseases, its chronicity worsens atherosclerosis, diseases with chronic inflammation, its deficiency is very common.

Glutathione has been demonstrated to have diverse effects on the immune system, either stimulating or inhibiting the immunological response in order to control inflammation.

Ozone has been in continuous medical use for over 100 years, used by German soldiers in the trenches to disinfect wounds. Recent research both in vitro and in vivo demonstrate ozone to have powerful immune modulating and healing effects. Ozone has also been shown to have control in chronic inflammation, as an adjuvant therapy in standard procedures.
